Dr. Ayanna Cooper is an educational consultant and advocate for culturally and linguistically diverse learners.
She is a co-author of Evaluating ALL teachers of English learners and students with disabilities: Supporting great teaching and has contributed to a number of publications such as the WIDA Essential Actions Handbook and Language Magazine.
She has held positions as an English as a Second Language teacher, ELL Instructional Coach, Urban Education Teacher Supervisor, ELL/Title III Director and ELL/Bilingual Program Specialist.
As an adjunct instructor she teaches a number of graduate level courses in the areas of first and second language acquisition, sociolinguistics and sheltering instruction for English learners across content areas.
As a consultant her projects involve providing technical assistance to state departments of education and school districts. She emphasizes the importance of building administrator capacity to develop and manage English language programs as well as improving instructional practices for teachers.
In 2016 she was recognized as one of TESOL’s 30 Up & Coming professionals. While serving as Chair of International TESOL’s Professional Development Standing Committee, she’s highlighted the importance of diverse representation, equity and access across the profession.
Dr. Cooper holds an Ed.D. from Walden University, an Ed.S. from Piedmont College and an M.Ed. from Lesley University.
